The Objective

  • To launch "Hiding in Plain Site," the highly anticipated premier exhibition for JA Henseler’s Fine Art. The goal was twofold: to establish a striking, cohesive visual identity that honored the artist's work, and to engineer a high-impact omnichannel marketing campaign to drive targeted foot traffic, press coverage, and VIP attendance throughout the month-long residency in Downtown San Diego.

The Challenge

  • Fine art exhibitions require a delicate balance. The branding and marketing materials needed to be captivating enough to cut through the noise of San Diego's vibrant summer event scene, yet refined enough to let JA Henseler’s artwork remain the focal point. Furthermore, we needed to seamlessly bridge the physical and digital worlds, ensuring that the in-person event styling matched the online presence, while deploying a localized advertising strategy to reach high-net-worth individuals, art collectors, and local culture enthusiasts.

1. Brand Identity & Event Styling

  • The Flyer & Core Identity: We developed the foundational event flyer, which established the typography, color palette, and mood for the entire campaign.

  • Thematic Cohesion: This core aesthetic was expanded into a comprehensive event styling guide, dictating the look and feel of every touchpoint to ensure the "Hiding in Plain Site" theme resonated consistently from the first glance to the final walk-through.

2. Digital Presence & Social Amplification

  • Website Production: We designed and launched a bespoke, high-performance landing page that served as the central hub for the exhibition. It featured RSVP capabilities, artist information, and a sneak peek of the collection.

  • Social Media Campaign: We produced a curated grid of social media posts, leveraging the event branding to build anticipation, announce key dates, and showcase behind-the-scenes installation content.

3. Experiential & On-Site Design

  • Invitations: We crafted premium, stylized physical and digital invitations for the VIP opening night and general admission, setting a tone of exclusivity.

  • Art Show Book Retail: We created a 106 page art book encompassing all of the gallery pieces with descriptions. This was sold at the event and on his website.

  • Environmental Graphics: We translated the digital brand into the physical space, producing custom wall art and graphic elements that guided attendees through the gallery space and provided context to the artwork.

  • Media Backdrop: We designed a branded step-and-repeat media backdrop, creating an organic engine for user-generated content and press photo ops during the opening weekend.

4. Advanced Advertising & Targeting

  • Online Banner Campaign: We deployed a striking digital display campaign utilizing advanced geo-fencing around Downtown San Diego and internationally to high-income zip codes, targeting users with demonstrated interests in fine art, gallery openings, and luxury lifestyle.

  • CTV & Video Advertising: To elevate the campaign's prestige, we produced engaging video assets and launched a Connected TV (CTV) campaign. Utilizing cutting-edge audience targeting, these commercials were served directly to local art buyers streaming content on premium networks, maximizing high-value reach.

While the physical exhibition in Downtown San Diego offered an immersive in-person experience, our goal was to build an equally captivating digital presence. We needed to generate sustained anticipation, maximize the exhibition's reach beyond the immediate local footprint, and drive consistent foot traffic and VIP RSVPs through a highly curated, algorithm-optimized social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram.

The Challenge

Sustaining momentum for a month-long art exhibition requires a dynamic content pipeline. Stagnant or repetitive posts quickly lead to audience fatigue. We needed to maintain the premium, sophisticated aesthetic of the "Hiding in Plain Site" branding while producing enough high-quality volume to stay top-of-mind and favor the platforms' algorithms.

The Strategy & Execution

To achieve this, we transitioned from standard event promotion to an aggressive, visually-led storytelling strategy, treating the social feeds as a digital extension of the gallery itself.

Expert Collaboration: We assembled and directed a dedicated team of professional photographers and social media strategists. This ensured that every piece of content—from wide gallery shots to macro details of the brushwork—met the highest standards of fine art documentation.

  • High-Frequency Cadence: We established a robust publishing schedule of 3 to 5 high-quality posts per weekacross both Facebook and Instagram. This cadence allowed us to build algorithmic momentum in the weeks leading up to the July 12th opening and sustain that energy through the August 10th closing.

  • Dynamic Content Mix: Working with our photography team, we developed a diverse visual pipeline that included:

    • Pre-Launch Teasers: Mysterious, stylized glimpses of the art to build intrigue around the "Hiding in Plain Site" theme.

    • Behind-the-Scenes (BTS): Capturing the artist's process and the meticulous gallery installation to build an emotional connection with the audience.

    • Opening Night Coverage: High-energy social proof featuring VIP attendees, the branded media backdrop, and the crowded gallery to drive FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) for the remainder of the dates.

    • Artwork Spotlights: High-resolution carousels highlighting specific pieces, accompanied by engaging copy detailing the medium, inspiration, and scale.

  • Platform Optimization: We tailored the content formats for maximum impact, utilizing Instagram Reels for BTS video content to capture organic reach, and utilizing Facebook's robust event features to drive direct calendar reminders and RSVP conversions.

The Results

  • Sustained Engagement: Maintained an above-average engagement rate across Facebook and Instagram throughout the 8-week promotional window.

  • Expanded Reach: Reached unique accounts within the target San Diego demographic, leveraging the algorithm through our 3-5x weekly posting cadence.
